At the end of each day, as I wind down from my duties and reflect on the day just gone, I seek out solitude and silence, so that I can hear the sounds of the Universe surrounding me. I need the silence so that I can hear, really hear, and find comfort in the humming heartbeat of the ship. It is during these quiet moments that profound thoughts about life, the Universe and everything, seek me out. Tonight, before I shut my eyes and seek out my own universe of sleep and dreams, I will leave you with my final thought for the day:
Whenever you feel down; whenever you are hurting; whenever you are feeling defeated, embattled or worn down; whenever you are tired and weary; whenever you are feeling inadequate, and whenever you feel small, seek out the solitude and silence. Shut your eyes and shut out meaningless noise, and listen to what really matters. Look out to the stars above you, around you, below you and all around you and remember this:
“There’s as many atoms in a single molecule of your DNA as there are stars in the typical galaxy. We are, each of us, a little universe.” ― Neil deGrasse Tyson
Remember, you are not alone and your life has meaning. You are made of the Universe. You belong to the Universe. The Universe is here and so are you. Every beautiful star you see and every beautiful sound you hear is yet another reason to marvel at the amazing fact that the Universe exists, and so do you.
Good night and sweet dreams to you all…
